According to Abbott's website, Wallace Abbott began producing dosimetric granules in the apartment above his People's Drug Store on Chicago's North Side in 1888 with sales of $2,000. Since then, Abbott has grown immensely.
Abbott sells the Xience V stent, which was shown in a study to prevent more heart attacks with fewer complications after two years than Boston Scientific's rival Taxus Express. During Q2, worldwide vascular products sales increased 26.9 percent, including a favorable 2.3 percent effect of exchange rates, driven by strong international growth. In addition, worldwide diagnostics sales increased 8 percent, including a favorable 3.5 percent effect of exchange rates.
And according to its 2009 annual report, Abbott is tracking more than 2,000 female DES patients in the first all-female stent trial. Abbott will announce its Q3 2010 financial results Oct. 20, before the market opens.
According to a recent report, CEO Miles White has embraced the iPad for personal use, and the company is outfitting 1,000 sales reps with them.
