Quintiles lands pathology accreditation for Indian lab

Quintiles has secured accreditation from the College of American Pathologists for its Mumbai, India, lab, making it the first on the continent to receive the mark.

The CAP accreditation program has rigorous requirements for lab quality and competence, according to the college, and it optimizes processes to improve patient care, strengthens quality standards while reducing institutional errors and risks and controls costs.

Quintiles has the world's largest CAP-accredited network of labs, and expanding into India allows the CRO to adapt to its clients geographic needs, said Anil Raghavan, managing director of Quintiles India.

"The accreditation focuses on the continuum of care directly connected with improved patient safety and risk reduction," Raghavan said in a statement. "We are proud to be the first Asia Pacific lab to receive this accreditation, which reflects our commitment to establishing best-in-class practices in the industry."

The CRO giant has been doubling down on its emerging markets services of late, investing in its Chinese IT capabilities and expanding its global trial capacity in Indonesia over the last few months. Amid all its expansion, Quintiles is still rumored to be considering a multi-billion-dollar IPO, a topic on which CEO Tom Pike has been silent since rumors surfaced last fall.
