Natera teams with Angiex on cancer drug trial monitoring

Natera inked a collaboration deal with biotech Angiex to assess the use of its Signatera blood test, which looks for small traces of cancer DNA in patients who have been diagnosed and treated for the disease.

Angiex, a privately held Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company founded in 2015, is conducting a phase 1 clinical trial of AGX101, a TM4SF1-directed, nuclear-delivered antibody-drug conjugate. AGX101 binds to TM4SF1 to deliver a cytotoxic payload to TM4SF1-expressing tumor cells and tumor-associated endothelial cells, targeting both tumor cells and tumor vasculature.

The collaboration will evaluate whether Natera’s Signatera can complement radiologic assessments in patients treated with AGX101, especially when imaging indicates metabolic or structural changes but the presence of viable tumor remains uncertain, the companies said.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

“We believe AGX101 has the potential to offer a differentiated therapeutic approach for patients with advanced solid tumors,” Paul Jaminet, co-founder and chief executive of Angiex, said in a statement. “This collaboration will allow us to evaluate whether longitudinal ctDNA (circulating tumor DNA) measurements can complement imaging and improve our understanding of treatment response.”

Angiex’s clinical trial is enrolling cancer patients with unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic solid tumors. The trial includes Signatera testing to better understand its potential for monitoring treatment response during AGX101 therapy.

“Signatera provides additional depth into early biologic response assessment that can meaningfully advance our understanding of this novel drug class,” said Eric Matthews, Natera’s general manager, biopharma.

Natera snapped up Foresight Diagnostics, a Stanford University spinout and developer of blood tests for tracking minimal residual disease, or MRD, in late December 2025 in a deal valued at $450 million.

Natera operates labs in Austin; San Carlos, California; and Boulder, Colorado. The company reported total revenue of $2.3 billion in 2025, a 35.9% jump from the $1.7 billion recorded in 2024.
