J&J's LifeScan wins FDA nod for iPad-friendly glucose monitoring system

Once again, smartphones and tablets are becoming increasingly crucial to medical device development. This time, Johnson & Johnson's ($JNJ) LifeScan division won FDA clearance for its new OneTouch VerioSync blood glucose monitoring system. But here's the high-tech twist: J&J/LifeScan bills the product as the first glucose meter of its kind that automatically sends blood glucose data wirelessly, via Bluetooth, to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
