Cook Medical wins Novation catheter contract

Cook Medical's central venous catheters will be available to the members served by Novation starting Jan. 1, 2012, as part of a new supply contract. The contract will provide access to a number of Cook offerings, including the Spectrum minocycline and rifampin impregnated catheters.

"We are pleased that our relationship with Novation continues to grow as we add another business division to its distribution network," said Dan Sirota, VP and business unit leader of Cook Medical's critical care and interventional radiology divisions. "Cook is proud to partner with Novation in delivering a technology that helps prevent dangerous and potentially fatal infections and reduces health care costs to its expansive network of health care providers."

Hospital group purchasing organizations have been highlighting new contracts on what seems to be an ever-increasing basis this year. The rise comes months after device giant Medtronic told GPO Novation it was cancelling 5 contracts for cardiovascular and orthopedic products valued at $2 billion.
