California genetic testing firm Color Genomics launched its $249 spit test kit for breast and ovarian cancer, making its foray into a crowded BRCA market. The company's Color Test analyzes 19 genes including BRCA1 and BRCA2, offering genetic screening at much lower costs than other commercially available tests which run anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000, Bloomberg reports. Color Genomics will enter the market with $15M in Series A funding in tow and the support of investors including Khosla Ventures. But the company faces some stiff competition, as Myriad Genetics ($MYGN) and Quest Diagnostics ($DGX) offer similar--albeit pricier--tests. Story
