Retroscreen Virology Purchases ALPHADAS for Clinical Studies across Multiple Sites

ALPHADAS EDC Selected to Accelerate Clinical Trial Operations and Service Across Multiple Sites

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA - (BUSINESS WIRE) – July 31 , 2013 - -Instem, a leading provider of IT solutions to the global early development healthcare market, announced today that the operating subsidiary of  Retroscreen Virology Group PLC (AIM: RVG, "Retroscreen") has purchased the ALPHADAS® clinical trials software suite to assist in its mission to accelerate and reduce the cost of bringing anti-viral drugs, diagnostics, and vaccines to market.

Instem's ALPHADAS software solution suite is a proactive eSource clinical research and early phase trials system that is mobile, schedule-driven, and provides real-time bedside or station based direct data capture that virtually eliminates paper-based data.

Retroscreen conducted a comprehensive evaluation, as a result of which ALPHADAS was selected for its ability to immediately increase efficiencies and quality through direct data capture from Retroscreen instrumentation, to manage and monitor samples through the entire study lifecycle while offering real-time data review.

On behalf of its sponsors, Retroscreen conducts the Human Viral Challenge Model in a controlled quarantine environment, providing a cost-effective study design which critically accelerates the selection of a safe and effective dose, and dosing regimen, for a new antiviral drug or vaccine.

The data captured by the ALPHADAS system during these specialized studies will facilitate Retroscreen's continued extensive characterization of the safety, pathogenicity and virulence of its viruses, and importantly, the nature of the disease they cause.

Further efficiencies will also be delivered through ALPHADAS from enhancing Retroscreen's comprehensive volunteer recruitment process, providing complete and complex chain of custody for samples through to real-time remote data review.

Key facts

  • ALPHADAS chosen for its ease of use and ability to provide immediate ROI for specialized Human Viral Challenge Studies
  • Retroscreen to utilize ALPHADAS eSource data capture – both on and offline (critical for timed data) & including medical device integrations,  real time & remote data review
  • ALPHADAS also to be used for accelerated recruitment, staff resourcing and site management operations

"We are excited to be implementing ALPHADAS and look forward to the benefits throughout our organization," comments Kym Denny, CEO of Retroscreen. "From recruitment to finance, and from the clinic floor to our sample tracking, it's evident that we will be quickly enhancing the level of service to our sponsors as a result."

Giles Wilson, Head of Instem Clinical & SVP commented, "When the protocol is entered into ALPHADAS, it is not only for data collection – it also drives the workflows and operational efficiencies that deliver a significant and immediate ROI. This proved compelling for Retroscreen." Wilson continued, "Along with the entire original Logos Technologies team, now operating as Instem Clinical, I am looking forward to a long and successful partnership with Retroscreen as they continue their mission to fight against a wide variety of viral diseases."
