PPDI develops portal to hold volunteers

Longer trials and fewer volunteers are behind PPD Inc.'s launch of PatientView, a website that lets trial participants learn about their illness and interact with investigators. The big CRO says keeping volunteers actively engaged increases the odds of them sticking with a trial to its end.

PatientView aids volunteers in keeping in touch with the study team. It lets them access the trial registry and monitoring program. And they can access the personal data they contribute to the study, the company says. PatientView leverages the Microsoft HealthVault platform.

Another CRO showing web savvy is Quintiles, which last month announced Web Health awards for its trial recruitment site, ClinicalResearch.com, and the medication monitoring service it founded, MediGuard.org. A year ago, Quintiles launched Trial Enrollment Accelerator, a site-level tool for volunteer outreach and branded recruitment campaigns.
