Bina Unveils All-New Whole Exome Analysis and On-Demand Services at CHI NGx

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2013

Bina Technologies, the genomic big data science platform accelerating personalized medicine, today announced the launch of its Whole Exome application and Bina On-Demand offering, the latest additions to the company's fully integrated Bina Genomic Analysis Platform, which performs whole genome analysis in 4 hours or less.

Exome sequencing has long been popular due to its relatively low costs compared to whole genome sequencing and its focus on only the portion of the genome where most common genetic diseases originate. With this new capability, the Bina Genomic Analysis Platform is able to meet the needs of an even larger number of geneticists, bioinformaticians and clinicians.

Since most diseases are a result of malformed proteins, genetic mutations in the exome account for 85% of common genetic diseases such as multiple scelerosis, congenetial heart disease and other variants that affect protein function. This makes exome analysis a highly effective and near-complete first test when analyzing disease-causes in DNA.

Now common disease types and predictable gene mutations can be accurately examined faster and more cost effectively, increasing the likelihood of locating root causes so that treatment can be personalized. Implementing a streamlined user interface, the Bina Genomics Analysis Platform requires minimal training to quickly generate accurate and repeatable results in the fastest time possible. Furthermore, this technology makes it possible for researchers and bioinformaticians to accelerate their initiatives with ultra-fast and accurate exome analysis.

"The life science research and translational medicine industries have for too long been held back by high costs and technological barriers," said Narges Bani Asadi, founder and CEO of Bina Technologies. "With Bina's new Whole Exome application, we're democratizing access to faster, more accurate and cost effective analysis for the industry. This will empower today's genomics community with a toolset that delivers superior accuracy at minimal cost."

In addition, Bina is also releasing its Bina On-Demand, a new pay-as-you-go genomic analysis offering that allows researchers and clinicians to complete genomic analysis jobs at any scale with the same high speed, accuracy and throughput that Bina has made the cornerstone of its platform. By participating in the Bina On-Demand program, a university or institution can enable their entire community to accelerate their genomics research without incurring the high cost and complexity of a large compute center. Multiple researchers can each have their own Bina account with separate billing and only pay for what they use.

Both Whole Genome and Whole Exome applications are available today on either a subscription or pay-as-you-go basis with no annual maintenance or support fees, helping customers analyze genomic data at lower costs than most other in-house bioinformatics technologies. "Not every researcher needs the full throughput of a dedicated Bina Genomics Analysis Platform," said Mark Sutherland, SVP of business development at Bina. "With Bina On-Demand, even more researchers and clinicians can tap into Bina's high-powered genomic analysis platform without having to pay for scale they're not using, providing easier access to faster speeds and more accurate analysis in-house. This new capability alone is incredibly transformative for helping us deliver data-driven, precise healthcare in our lifetime."

Key new product features include:

Whole Exome Analysis

  • Complete analysis of a whole exome in as little as 30 minutes
  • Process up to 600 whole exomes per month
  • Superior accuracy with a choice of BWA/GATK or Bina/GATK pipelines
  • Highly accurate indel and SNP detection
  • Alignment to the whole genome to identify both ON and OFF target regions

Bina On-Demand

  • No upfront costs or monthly fees to access the Bina platform
  • No subscription commitment required
  • Convenient pay-as-you-go model
  • Support for multiple users with separate billing accounts
  • Ideal for use in a community/shared resource environment

Alongside this announcement, Dr Rupert Yip, Director of Product Marketing, will be presenting both of these new applications and speaking on other, related topics later this week at Cambridge Health Institute's (CHI) annual NGx: Applying Next-Generation Sequencing event, happening August 19th through 21st in Providence, Rhode Island.
