Accelrys brings drug discovery projects to the cloud

Accelrys ($ACCL), the San Diego-based scientific software firm, has unveiled its next-gen informatics system called the Cheminformatics Suite. The suite has new tools, including a web-based system for registering chemicals and a cloud-based system from partner Scynexis that supports the sharing of data among separate groups involved in drug discovery, according to the company. Bio-IT World covered the software release and talked to Accelrys' senior director for life sciences marketing, Rob Brown. "We're building on the joint heritage of Accelrys, MDL and Symyx--more than 25 years," Brown said. "This is the first time there's been a coherent suite to cover all capabilities that scientists need to cover daily workflows," established through a combination of in-house development with acquisitions and partnerships, he added, as quoted by Bio-IT World.
