Tasso, United BioSource partner to improve blood sample collection in studies

Tasso, which specializes in clinical-grade blood collection, is partnering with United BioSource to make sample collection and analysis more efficient and easier for patients taking part in clinical trials.

Tasso will brings its at-home blood sample solutions to the collaboration with United BioSource, which provides evidence development and participant support services such as digital recruitment strategies and real-world data analysis software, according to a July 27 press release. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Both hope to accelerate the industry push to enroll more diverse populations in decentralized post-approval studies.

Last September, the FDA cleared Tasso’s simple sample collection device that a user can place on their upper arm to fill a small tube of blood drawn from the capillaries through a push-button suction method the company touts as being virtually painless.

The single-use kits are mailed to a patient’s home and then mailed back after self collection. The system was designed to offer clinical-grade testing for remote clinical studies run by pharmaceutical companies as well as personal telemedicine appointments.
