Unigene's Leading Peptide Development Expertise Endorsed with Strategic Equity Investment of up to $6 Million by Industry Legend

BOONTON, N.J., Oct 06, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) - Unigene Laboratories, Inc. (OTCBB: UGNE) today announced that Dr. Claus Christiansen, Chairman of Nordic Bioscience, purchased $1.5 million of Unigene's common stock at a purchase price equivalent to the average share price over the previous 30 days through his Danish foundation, Den Danske Forskningsfond (DDF) with an option to purchase an additional $1.5 million before year end. DDF has an option for an additional equity investment of up to $3.0 million in the first half of 2012.

About Claus Christiansen

Claus Christiansen is Chairman of Nordic Bioscience, and Executive Director and Chairman of CCBR/Synarc. He received his medical education at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark in 1971, and held the post of Head of the Department of Clinical Pathology and Clinical Chemistry, Glostrup Hospital, University of Copenhagen for 14 years. Hereafter he founded Den Danske Forskningsfond (The Danish Research Foundation) with its subsidiary Center for Clinical and Basic Research (CCBR) where he was the Executive Director. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Christiansen has published extensively in the field of osteoporosis with over 900 articles and book chapters, particularly in the area of calcium metabolism in postmenopausal women.

Dr. Christiansen has been Chairman of several international symposia on osteoporosis, and has been an invited speaker on calcium metabolism at almost all international meetings in the field. In addition, he is a member of the Editorial Boards of the journals Bone and Osteoporosis International.
