Brussels-based UCB has announced that the FDA has granted orphan drug status to brivaracetam for the treatment of symptomatic myoclonus, a disease characterized by jerking, involuntary movements of the arms and legs, which is sometimes a symptom of various epileptic disorders. The European Commission also granted brivaracetam orphan status earlier this year.
