Threshold slashes staff in wake of quarterly loss

Threshold Pharmaceuticals announced it was cutting about a third of its staff after reporting a $15.5 million loss in its second quarter. The move will reduce total staff by 30, to 53. CFO Janet Swearson is also leaving the company and her duties are being assumed by the COO. Threshold announced last month that it was ending a program to develop a new therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
