Study Names ActiGraph Most Accurate Commercially Available Accelerometer

A recent independent evaluation of accelerometry data has shown the ActiGraph to be the most accurate commercially available device to assess daily physical activity.

Pensacola, FL (PRWEB) October 29, 2007 -- A recent independent evaluation of accelerometry data has shown the ActiGraph to be the most accurate commercially available device to assess daily physical activity. The study, which was conducted by Guy Plasqui and Klaas R. Westerterp, compared data collected by eight commonly used accelerometers against the doubly labeled water (DLW) technique, which is considered to be the most accurate measure of energy expenditure under free living conditions. Published in the October 2007 edition of "Obesity" under the title "Physical Activity Assessment With Accelerometers: An Evaluation Against Doubly Labeled Water", the study concluded that the ActiGraph was the only commercially available monitor that showed positive correlation with the DLW derived results.

"We are obviously pleased with these findings, but they certainly do not come as a surprise" said ActiGraph president Jeff Arnett. "This study only further validates what the scientific community has shown through years of previous research. The ActiGraph really is the gold standard in accelerometry."

Since its inception in 2004, ActiGraph, LLC has served the research community in over 40 countries and has become the industry leader in actigraphy monitors. ActiGraph, LLC has recently witnessed dramatic market expansion as the applications for the science of actigraphy have grown to include not only physical activity research, but also sleep diagnostics, rehabilitation monitoring, obesity and diabetes research, sports medicine, pharmaceutical drug testing, and veterinary science. ActiGraph has most recently entered the consumer marketplace with the release of the ActiTrainer, an accelerometer specifically designed for use by the general public.
