Sofitel San Francisco Bay Honored with Prestigious Environmental Award

WateReuse Association Recognizes Sofitel for Innovative Applications of Recycled Water

Dallas, (PRWEB) September 19, 2007 - The WateReuse Association presented its 2007 Customer of the Year Award to Sofitel San Francisco Bay, part of the luxury brand of Accor hotels, during a ceremony that took place Sept. 10 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Fla. The awards ceremony coincided with the 22nd Annual WateReuse Symposium, which is the preeminent conference devoted to water reuse and desalination education. Sofitel San Francisco Bay was recognized for becoming the first to collaborate with the City of Redwood City, Calif., on its Recycled Water Project.

The prestigious awards program recognizes superior water reuse, reclamation and recycling projects across the United States that advance reuse, have a new reclamation twist or have made significant contributions to water reuse. The Customer of the Year Award honors the recycled water customer that has advanced acceptance of water reuse through innovative marketing and/or unique applications of recycled water.

"We are humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award," said Didier de la Ferrière, Sofitel San Francisco Bay general manager. "By participating in this program, Sofitel is helping to conserve the city's drinking water for other critical community uses. I hope others will realize the importance of environmental programs and find innovative ways to conserve our world for future generations."

Through the Redwood City Recycled Water Project, Sofitel San Francisco Bay is helping to save millions of gallons of the city's drinking water for other critical community uses. The program goal is to save approximately 900 acre-feet (300 million gallons) of drinking water annually by replacing the irrigation and industrial demand with recycled water by 2010. The project will ultimately help the San Francisco Bay area meet its long-term water supply needs while increasing its overall supply reliability.

Sofitel maintains a business philosophy of sustainability in water and energy consumption, as well as waste management and recycling. Sofitel is a willing partner in exploring new ways to save water and is proactive in expanding the safe use of recycled water beyond the common uses.

Sofitel San Francisco Bay is located in the Redwood Shores area of Redwood City, Calif. With four approved recycled water applications, the hotel has more onsite uses than any other Redwood City recycled water customer.
