The FDA has accepted the marketing application for an experimental therapy for blood pressure from the U.S. arm of Switzerland's Novartis. Novartis Pharmaceuticals is seeking approval of a renin inhibitor, Rasilez, that has demonstrated its effectiveness in lowering the blood pressure of patients. It has been tested in about 6,000 people suffering from high blood pressure, providing positive data for groups that include patients already on a blood pressure medication. Researchers have been working with an enzyme that is released in the kidney as a result of low blood pressure.
