New specialty pharma company buys Shire Lab assets

Supernus, a new specialty pharma company based in Rockville, MD, has attracted a $17.5 million investment from New Enterprise Associates. OrbiMed Advisors has also joined in funding the new company. Supernus also announced that it had acquired the assets of Shire Laboratories, a subsidiary of Shire. Supernus says it will focus on developing "differentiated products for targeted specialty therapeutic areas" on its own and in partnership with other drug companies. Supernus was founded by former SLI president and CEO Jack A. Khattar.
