The FDA has OK'd the use of Cangene's injectable HepaGam B to prevent reinfection in some liver transplant recipients. The therapy offers immunity to the virus and liver transplant patients already exposed to the virus are at higher risk due to a weakened immune system. HepaGam B was approved early last year to prevent infection after certain kinds of exposure. In trials the therapy reduced the re-infection rate to about 13 percent from 86 percent.
