Rotherham to Guide Technology Strategy of Clinical Research and Innovative eClinical Solutions Provider Cmed Group

Cmed Group , which combines contract clinical research services with an innovative provider of eClinical technology and solutions, announced today that Dr. Neil Rotherham will join its Board of Directors.

Dr. Rotherham has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the life sciences, medical, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors. Dr. Rotherham was responsible for co-founding and growing ClinPhone from a two-person startup in 1993 to a 500-person global venture that was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2006.

Prior to co-founding ClinPhone, Dr. Rotherham worked in the pharmaceutical industry on medicine development for Boots Pharmaceuticals. His prior qualification in medicine and training as a hospital physician will provide further benefits in developing and growing Cmed's clinical and eClinical technology services to biopharmaceutical development organizations.

His appointment strengthens Cmed's Board as it accelerates the commercialization of its on-demand eClinical platform, Timaeus , that manages data from Study Design through Reporting. Timaeus combines advanced distributed cloud, mobile, web and tablet computing technologies to provide research organizations the freedom to manage any type of data, for any trial, anywhere.

"We are delighted to welcome Neil Rotherham to the Cmed Group Board," said Cmed CEO Dr. David Connelly. "Neil joins at a time of exciting new developments and opportunities for Timaeus. The appointment reinforces the ambition and potential of our Cmed Technology business."

"I am excited to be joining Cmed," said Dr. Rotherham. "I have been really impressed with the vision of Cmed and the ground-breaking approach that has been applied to developing Timaeus. The forward-thinking and innovative approach taken to the architecture of the product gives it many benefits over the traditional systems available for EDC [electronic data capture] and data management, which were all designed many years ago and reflect the approach available at that time. Timaeus takes some of the real advances in computing that have emerged in the last few years and applies these to the eClinical space. I really think Timaeus is a blueprint for the way systems will be designed going forward. The Cmed team has moved away from the existing approach of applying a web front end to a centralized database or legacy data management back end, which were never designed with the Internet and distributed systems in mind. I am sure Timaeus will have a real impact on helping actually achieve the efficiencies and process benefits that have been promised but somewhat failed to deliver to our industry."
