Intercell shares surge on positive TB vaccine data

The share price of Austria's Intercell jumped after researchers announced a successful conclusion to its early-stage trial of a new tuberculosis vaccine. The company, along with collaborator Statens Serum Institut, said that the therapy had proved safe and very immunogenic. Intercell is combining its adjuvant, IC31, with two tuberculosis antigens provided by SSI.

"The successful outcome of the phase I trial has paved the way to move our novel TB vaccine forward. It is designed to function in a stand alone schedule, as well as in combination with previous exposure to BCG or other closely related mycobacteria," said Peter Andersen, director of vaccine research and development, SSI.
