GSK pushing OTC status for weight-loss drug

GlaxoSmithKline has asked the FDA to permit the weight-loss drug Xenical to go OTC. If approved, it would be the first weight-loss drug to go off of prescription. Researchers submitted new data last week that found that 36 percent of people taking Xenical lost 5 percent of their body weight, compared with 28 percent taking a placebo. The drug works by blocking the body's absorption of dietary fat.
