FDA wants user fees from generics companies

The FDA wants to start charging generic drug companies user fees so they can hire more staff to deal with the growing backlog of generic drug applications. In a speech to be delivered later today, Scott Gottlieb, the FDA's deputy commissioner for medical and scientific affairs, will say that "it's not fair to compare our work in our generic drug office to our work in the new drug office, as some have done, without acknowledging that our new drugs program has benefited from funding tools that are not available to us when it comes to generic drugs."
