FDA official says Wyeth allegations prompted reassignment

An FDA official says she was pulled from a job at the agency and subjected to a criminal investigation after Wyeth raised questions about her alleged affiliations with several of its competitors. The scientist, Victoria Hampshire, says her work compiling reports of adverse events led the agency to pull Wyeth's ProHeart 6 heartworm drug from the market. She was reassigned just weeks before an FDA committee was scheduled to consider approving ProHeart 6's return to the market. Wyeth said it had discovered that Dr. Hampshire had a relationship with an online pharmacy that marketed several of its competitors' drugs. But Dr. Hampshire says she only owns a tiny company that markets veterinary PalmPilots.
