C&L: Philip Ottiger tapped to lead Synthetech

Synthetech has appointed Philip Ottiger as president and CEO. Ottiger, 63, has over 35 years experience in the fine chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries.

Guava Technologies has promoted Lawrence F. Bruder to CEO. He has also been elected to the company's board of directors. Bruder was previously Guava's president and COO.

Inflazyme Pharmaceuticals has named John Hodgman as chairman of the board of directors.

Sirtris Pharmaceuticals has hired Peter Elliott, Ph.D., as senior VP and head of development. Prior to joining Sirtris, Elliott was executive VP of product development at CombinatoRx.

Metabasis Therapeutics announced that Dr. Mark Erion, Metabasis' executive VP of research and development, has been named to the additional post of chief scientific officer.

Cardium Therapeutics has added Robert L. Engler, M.D. as chief medical adviser. Currently, Dr. Engler is Professor of Medicine Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego.

BioAxone has appointed Dr. Patrick Tremblay VP of research and development. Dr. Tremblay joins BioAxone from Neurochem.

Conforma Therapeutics has named Thomas M. Estok to the newly created position of chief commercial officer.

Aptuit has appointed Paul Lubetkin as general counsel. Most recently, Lubetkin served as senior VP, general counsel, and secretary of Odyssey Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Nora E. Sarvetnick, Dr. Athanassios Sambanis and Dr. Bassam Damaj have been named to the advisory board of MicroIslet.
