C&L: Connelly named president of Lilly USA

Deidre Connelly, senior vice president for human resources at Eli Lilly, has been named president of Lilly USA. Succeeding her will be Anthony (Tony) Murphy, PhD, who has been promoted to senior vice president for human resources.

Shaun A. Kirkpatrick has been named president and CEO of Research Corporation Technologies. Formerly RCT's president and COO, Kirkpatrick succeeds current CEO Gary M. Munsinger, PhD, who is also chairman of the RCT board of directors. Munsinger will retire from RCT on July 1 and will continue as nonexecutive chairman of the board.

Timothy P. Lynch has resigned as Tercica's CFO. Lynch is taking a position as CEO of a venture-backed specialty pharmaceutical company. Susan Wong, Tercica's vice president, finance and controller, has been named acting CFO.

Pacific Biometrics has appointed Michael Murphy, PhD, as the new senior vice president of operations.

Michael Perelman, MD, has been appointed vice president, Global Project Management and Global Regulatory Affairs, for the Schering-Plough Research Institute.

Sunesis Pharmaceuticals has promoted Gradon Knotts to the newly created position of vice president, business development.

Metabolex has named Patrick James Doyle as chief corporate development officer.

Wex Pharmaceuticals announced the departure of John Olthoff, general manager, as a consequence of corporate restructuring of the company. Olthoff will continue to remain as a director of Wex.

Adolor announced that David M. Madden has been appointed chairman of its board of directors, a newly created position.

Elan appointed five new members to the company's board of directors. The three new non-executive board members are Goran Ando, MD, Gary Kennedy and Nancy Lurker, and the two new executive board members are Shane Cooke and Lars Ekman, MD, PhD.

Sangamo BioSciences named Steven J. Mento, PhD, president and CEO of Idun Pharmaceuticals, to its board of directors.

Arthur J. Ammann, MD, president of Global Strategies for HIV Prevention, has been named to the board of directors of Viral Genetics.
