After studying the FDA's request for more data on its Type 2 diabetes therapy muraglitazar, Bristol-Myers Squibb has decided to shelve the drug. BMS concluded that it would take a long-term trial to provide the agency with what it was looking for. Looking down the road five years and the alternative therapies for Type 2 diabetes now in the pipeline, BMS concluded that the extra costs and effort involved were too high.
