BMS sets aside $185M for Vanlev claims

Bristol-Myers Squibb has created a $185 million fund to settle a class-action lawsuit claiming the company pushed development of a heart therapy despite dangerous side effects. BMS allegedly promoted Vanlev as a potential blockbuster despite data that linked the drug to angioedema, a condition that leads the throat to swell, choking a patient. Plaintiffs also said that the data did not establish Vanlev as a superior therapy to existing heart drugs.
