BioNanomatrix Names Genomics Industry Leader Dr. David L. Barker to Its Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- BioNanomatrix, Inc., a developer of breakthrough single-molecule genomic analysis technology, has elected David L. Barker, Ph.D., to its board of directors.  

"Dr. Barker brings broad and in-depth scientific, business and corporate governance experience to the Board," said Tracy Warren, chairman of BioNanomatrix and a general partner of Battelle Ventures. Dr. Barker was vice president and chief scientific officer at Illumina, Inc., in San Diego, Calif., from 2000 through 2006.  He served from 1998 to 2000 as vice president and chief science advisor at Amersham Biosciences, now part of General Electric. From 1988 to 1998, Dr. Barker held senior positions, including vice president of research and business development at Molecular Dynamics, Inc., until the acquisition of Molecular Dynamics by Amersham. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Cell Biosciences, Integrated Diagnostics, IntegenX Inc., and NextBio, and is a scientific advisor to Illumina, GenVault, Diagnostics for the Real World, Helixis, BiOptix, and DNA Direct. In his academic career, Dr. Barker conducted interdisciplinary research in neurobiology as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, assistant professor at the University of Oregon and associate professor at Oregon State University. Dr. Barker holds a B.S. degree with honors in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Brandeis University.
