BioCryst shares peak on hopes for bird flu drug

In the latest sign that investors are clearly focusing on any biotech company with a potential treatment to aid in the defense against avian flu, the share price of BioCryst Pharmaceuticals hit a five-year high. Researchers at the Birmingham, AL, company have taken Peramivir off the shelf, believing that it could prove effective against bird flu. Peramivir was abandoned three years ago after flunking a late-stage trial.
