Bausch + Lomb Names Mariano García-Valiño as President, Latin America

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Bausch + Lomb, the global eye health company, has named Mariano García-Valiño to the newly created role of corporate vice president and president, Latin America, effective immediately.

"Mariano has extensive experience in developing high-performing health care businesses in Latin America," said Brent Saunders, chief executive officer, Bausch + Lomb. "His knowledge, insights, and extensive business networks will prove critical as we expand our presence in the region, which we believe holds significant untapped potential for eye health growth."

Mr. García-Valiño was most recently an operating partner with Advent International, a global private equity firm, where he focused on investment opportunities in the Latin American health care industry.

From 2001 to 2009, he served in multiple roles with Pfizer Inc., including a position as head of Pfizer's largest operating group in Brazil, overseeing a pharmaceuticals business. During his tenure at Pfizer, Mr. García-Valiño also served as the chief marketing officer of the Brazilian operation, head of business development for Brazil and head of planning and business development for Latin America.

During the Pfizer-Pharmacia merger, Mr. García-Valiño led the integration of the $1 billion, 10-country, 4,000-person Latin American operations into a single streamlined structure, resulting in the creation of the largest pharmaceuticals company in the region.

Earlier in his career, he held positions with McKinsey & Company, Eli Lilly, and Disprofarma.

Mr. García-Valiño holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de Buenos Aires and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He will be based at Bausch + Lomb's offices in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
