Arena Pharmaceuticals said that patients taking its obesity drug APD356 in a Phase II trial lost significantly more weight than patients taking a placebo. A total of 352 patients took part in the trial, with the experimental drug knocking off an average of 1.3 kilograms at doses of 15 mg compared to .4 kilograms for the placebo group. Researchers said that patients taking a lower dose did not lose a statistically significant amount of weight.
