ViroPharma's stock falls in face of generic competition

Despite positive early results for ViroPharma's hepatitis C treatment, the company's stock fell sharply yesterday. The drop was due to an announcement that Akorn and an Indian drug manufacturer might develop a generic version of Vancocin. ViorPharma bought Vancocin, an antibiotic, from Lilly last year. The drug had already lost patent protection when ViroPharma made the purchase.
