ViroPharma pledges to add up to 151 staffers in 3-year expansion plan

Rare disease drug developer ViroPharma has struck a deal with Pennsylvania officials that paves the way to an expansion tied to the promise of creating 151 new jobs in coming years.

Pennsylvania officials have pledged $583,000 in incentives to encourage ViroPharma to lease an additional 71,000 square feet of office space to accomodate the expansion in Exton. The company currently employs 188.

"For us it is about growth. ViroPharma has been in Exton for many years and we love our home here," said ViroPharma CEO Vincent J. Milano. "We're committed to this area for the long-term and look forward to creating opportunities in this community."

Like other states, Pennsylvania has identified biotech as a key engine for economic growth, with a rich assortment of incentive packages on offer in an ongoing effort to lure new companies to the state while lending a hand to expanding operations.
