U.S. researchers concerned by animal rights protests
Research groups are raising concerns that biomedical research involving animals could migrate outside the U.S. after an animal rights group claimed victory in forcing a UCLA researcher to stop experimenting with monkeys. The Primate Freedom Project had protested at the researcher's home, distributed leaflets in his neighborhood and posted his address on their Web site. Any more "successes" like this, says the Foundation for Biomedical Research, and you'll likely see research programs and jobs headed to countries with a more accommodating approach. Animal rights groups say that more of these campaigns in the U.S. are a certainty.
