Transplant drugs may offer Type 1 help
The Wall Street Journal examines some of the new clinical research work being done on immunosuppressants to treat Type 1 diabetes. Researchers haven't come up with a significant new therapy for Type 1 since the 1920s, but drugs like Roche's Daclizumab may offer some major improvements for patients. Just as immunosuppressants work to help patients' bodies avoid rejecting new organs, this method may help stop the immune system from attacking insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.
