Texas AG files suit against Merck over Vioxx

Adding to Merck's monumental legal woes over Vioxx, Texas became the first state to sue the giant drug company, saying that the company knowingly promoted the drug when it knew it was unsafe. The Texas attorney general filed the suit on behalf of the state Medicaid program, which paid an estimated $56 million for the Cox-2 inhibitor. Merck faces thousands of lawsuits over Vioxx, with the first trial scheduled for a Texas court later this month.
