Study shows that Alzheimer's drugs don't work
The primary drugs used to treat a wide range of symptoms of Alzheimer's--including agitation, aggression and hallucinations--are no better than placebos. That's the conclusion of researchers involved in a 33-site study of Zyprexa, Seroquel and Risperdal. Up to half of the patients in the study stopped taking the drugs because they weren't working and up to 24 percent stopped because of side effects. Scientists said the data showed that a new generation of therapies need to be developed which can work for the millions of people who suffer from Alzheimer's.
