SPOTLIGHT: Watson extends merger deadline

Watson Pharmaceuticals has extended its September 12 deadline to merge with Andrx to November 13. The new deadline will give the company time to meet with the FTC, which earlier requested more information on the proposed merger. In March Watson announced that it would fork over $1.9 billion to buy Andrx, furthering the rapid consolidation of the generic drug business. The deal will make Watson the third largest generic drug maker in the country. Report
