Six men hospitalized after clinical trial goes awry
All six people taking the experimental drug TGN1412 from Germany's TeGenero fell ill and two were in critical care in a London hospital, according to British newspapers. TGN1412 is a monoclonal antibody designed to treat leukemia, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. A spokesman for the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry said it was extremely rare to see this kind of reaction in a clinical trial. The trial has been suspended until investigators can figure out what caused such severe adverse events.
