Siga Technologies, PharmAthene to merge

Siga Technologies and PharmAthene have agreed to merge, creating a single company concentrating on developing new biodefense products. Terms were not disclosed, but the new company will operate as PharmAthene and PharmAthene CEO David Wright will be CEO of the new company. Researchers have been working on new therapies to protect people from anthrax, smallpox and chemical nerve agents.

"Combining PharmAthene's strong development and commercialization capabilities and procurement-stage biodefense products with SIGA's procurement-stage smallpox antiviral treatment, ST-246, and exceptional research pipeline, establishes a premier biodefense organization with multiple procurement-stage products with near-term revenue potential, and a broad research pipeline focused on biodefense and emerging infectious diseases," said Wright.
