Second Vioxx case goes to jury

The second Vioxx case went to the jury yesterday after a seven-week trial that once again reviewed the evidence against Merck for marketing a drug that increased the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Merck is betting that a win here can help stem the tide of some 7,000 lawsuits that it now faces over Vioxx. But with a mountain of evidence regarding the heart attack suffered by Frederick "Mike" Humeston, no decision is expected soon. Investors are betting on Merck for a change, sending its shares up over the past seven days.
