Schering-Plough: A good company to work for

You may have a tough time finding a job at Amgen, but Science magazine's latest survey places the biotech company as the third best biopharma in the world to work for. Genentech, which ruled the number one spot for six years running, has had to bow out and let Germany's Boehringer Ingelheim take the lead position. But perhaps the biggest surprise of the year belonged to Schering-Plough, which jumped from 17th last year to fourth this year. Why the big change? Schering-Plough puts its poll vault down to its emphasis on acting like a small company. Participants, meanwhile, say that a new spirit of openness, ethics and honesty can help transform the drug industry's shoddy public reputation.
