Report: Pfizer considering sale of research units

Pharmalot reports that Pfizer may sell off some of the research units it has slated for elimination and may buy a "brand name" biotech company to boot. Quoting sources at the company, the blog reports that deals could include both staff as well as IP. Up for grabs: programs that include a focus on heart disease, gastrointestinal illnesses and obesity.

Pharmalot also floats some speculation that Pfizer is looking at more job cuts, citing the pharma company's extension of its severance package program. Pfizer is quoted as saying only that "various pre-announced initiatives" will continue into next year.
