PhRMA tackles DC bill on drug prices

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has sued Washington, DC, over new legislation that would cap drug prices at 30 percent above that of Canada and other countries that regulate pharmaceuticals. The bill also provides sanctions for any drug company that violates the rule. The District council passed the Act unanimously on October 4. PhRMA maintains that it creates government-controlled pricing that violates patent law and protections for intrastate commerce. PhRMA has furiously attacked state laws that create what they see as price caps on drugs. Council members say they aren't setting prices, just preventing excessive pricing.
