Otsuka strikes licensing deal of diabetes therapy
Otsuka Pharmaceutical has licensed the Japanese rights to Bristol-Myers Squibb's saxagliptin, being studied for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. BMS gets an upfront payment and a schedule of milestones. Saxagliptin, discovered by Bristol-Myers Squibb, is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor currently in Phase III development in the United States and Europe.

I can see two sides to this story. One that is good and one bad. The good one is the fact that the researches concerning saxagliptin will probably get accelerated by the Japanese technology that will be involved in these researches. Many people probably anctiously await this promise drug to appear in pharmacies and online pharmacies alike. The bad side of the story is the part where Otsuka Pharmaceutical has exclusive wrights. And from exclusive wrights, nothing good has ever come out for the average buyer. Sure it's convenient for the Bristol-Myers Squibb company, but I don't believe in the exclusive wrights idea.
