Once upon a time Roche's ($RHBBY) sprawling R&D campus in Nutley, NJ, was considered one of the top research hubs in the world. But a lengthy track record of setbacks and the acquisition of Genentech in California changed all that, and the pharma giant shuttered the site and moved a group of survivors into a new research facility in Manhattan.
