Lilly's Evista fails to prevent heart attacks

Eli Lilly says a clinical trial of its osteoporosis drug Evista did not show any benefits in comparison with a placebo in preventing heart attacks. But researchers said that they did see signs that the drug reduced the risk of invasive breast cancer. Lilly had previously reported signs that "bad" cholesterol had been reduced in earlier trials. The latest data were collected in a study involving 10,000 women who were followed for seven years. All either had heart disease or were at a high risk of a heart attack.
