Investors bid up Alpharma stock on rumors of a sale

Shares of Alpharma were on the rise as speculation increases that all or part of the company may be up for sale. Unconfirmed reports have circulated that Ranbaxy and Wockhardt have bid for parts of the generic drug maker. And yesterday the Fort Lee, New Jersey-based company said it was still seeking "strategic alternatives" but had not signed any definitive agreements. The release did not specify what strategic alternatives were being considered.
