GSK outlines ambitious round of trials for cancer drugs
In an update to investors, the UK's GlaxoSmithKline revealed that it would put four new cancer drugs into Phase III trials in 2006 as it pursues an aggressive focus on new oncology treatments. Those drugs include Tykerb, a targeted oral therapy for breast cancer, Eltrombopag to prevent uncontrolled bleeding, Casopitant to prevent nausea and Pazopanib to prevent tumor growth. Until now cancer drugs had been only a small part of the mix for GSK. But some analysts say that GSK may not start capitalizing on these new drugs until 2010.
